The project
Idwala is home to a 10 MWh battery energy storage system, among the largest installed at a South African mine.
The system pairs two Hopewind HPPS-5000B turnkey transformer stations (each a 5 MW transformer with 4.8 MW of power conversion from 24 × 200 kW PCS units) with two Hubble C-20-5015-L battery containers. We first deployed Hubble's containerised technology at Nutrapharm. At Idwala, we took it to mining scale.
An active mine sets its own standards, and they are stringent. From induction and permitting to isolation procedures and daily safety controls, our team met every health and safety requirement on site.
